List of prominent Nigerians named peace Icons in Africa emerge
An international peace-focused organization, Peace Ambassador Agency Worldwide, has designated several prominent figures as peace icons in Africa, including Former President Goodluck Jonathan, former vice president Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Rwanda President Paul Kagame.
Also included in this list are Kenyan President William Ruto, Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank; Tony Elumelu, Chairman of UBA Group; Femi Otedola, Chairman of Geregu Power PLC; Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, President of LoveWorld Incorporated; and the Sultan of Sokoto, Mohammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, among others.
At a recent press conference in Abuja, during the unveiling of the “100 Most Notable Peace Icons In Africa,” Ambassador Kingsley Amafibe, the project director of the group, highlighted that these individuals were being recognized for their commitment to promoting peace and harmony on the African continent.
Amafibe noted that these peace icons have dedicated themselves to reducing conflicts, fostering social cohesion, and building connections among diverse African communities. He emphasized that this list includes individuals from various fields such as economics, finance, sports, religion, industry, entertainment, traditional leadership, activism, thought leadership, and creativity.
The intention behind acknowledging these individuals is to amplify the positive impact of their efforts and encourage a collective determination to create a more peaceful and prosperous Africa.
Amafibe also disclosed the organization’s plans to provide scholarships to 20,000 underprivileged students across Africa. He explained that the contributions and support of these peace icons would play a pivotal role in achieving the organization’s goals and objectives.
He stated that this scholarship program aims to empower and nurture the next generation of African leaders, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute to the growth and stability of their respective nations. The organization is committed to training and skill development for youth across diverse domains, ranging from entrepreneurship to technology.
Additionally, the organization is launching the “CleanAqua4All” initiative, which focuses on providing clean and safe drinking water to underserved rural areas. By ensuring access to this essential resource, the initiative aims to improve quality of life, enhance health and well-being, and drive progress in these communities.
