Court sentences man to death for using human intestines for pepper soup
A High Court in Port Harcourt has sentenced one Bestman Lekia, popularly known as ‘Biggie,’ to death by hanging for murdering one Loveday Mmeabe and using her remains to prepare pepper soup and plantain porridge in Okwalie community, Khana local government area of Rivers.
According to the prosecution, Lekia was a hardened cultist, arsonist, and cultist who also used his victims’ intestines to prepare meals such as plantain porridge.
The Court also found him guilty of torching buildings in a community in Khana Local Government Area.
According to the charges filed against him, Lekia and others now at large kidnapped and killed four people in Khana local government area at various times: Gbodu Nobaale, Etim Ekpe, Nenalebarri Mmeabe, and Loveday Mmeabe.
However, according to the court, Lekia and his accomplices did not only kill Mmeabe, the first person they abducted, but they also ripped open his stomach and used his intestines to prepare plantain meal in Okwalie community in Khana in 2019.
Bestman Lekia was found guilty of murder, kidnapping, cultism, and armed robbery by trial Judge Adolphus Enebeli.
The prosecutor was able to prove his case with the necessary evidence and presentations, according to the judge.
He claimed that the convict’s demeanor throughout his trial demonstrated that he was a hardened criminal, cultist, and terror, who was supposed to be hanged four times and die four times if possible.
Justice Enebeli ruled that he be hanged on his neck until his death is confirmed.
Chidi Ekeh, the state prosecutor’s counsel, expressed satisfaction with the decision to reporters outside the courtroom.
Ekeh stated, “As a human being, I do not take delight in the fact that he (Lekia) is going to die. But I feel happy that the law and the state did not fail society.
“That Ogoni community will know peace that they will never see him again. So, to me, it was a hard-nosed judgment. The judge has demonstrated once again that he is worth his salt.”
But the Defense counsel, N. O. Megwari declined comment on the judgment.
