DSS shoot at, brutalize journalists, protesters in Abuja

Armed DSS operatives on Tuesday in Abuja opened fire at the protesters who have gathered to demand for the release of detained Omoyele Sowore and Olawale Bakare.The officers fired live ammunition and teargas at the protesters and journalists at close range, injuring many of them.The peaceful protest which commenced at 12:00pm at the Aso Drive junction as the protesters were chanting “Free Sowore, free Bakare.”

The officers formed a human shield to prevent the mob from advancing toward the facility.

Trouble started when a Hilux vehicle belonging to the DSS rammed into the protesters, dispersing them as people scampered for safety. Many people were injured as the vehicle hit some protesters.

At this point the officers began to shoot at the protesters and journalists, injuring many of them. Also the tire of their vehicles were vandalised by the officers.

Two journalists with Guardian Newspaper and Galaxy TV , Richard Oludare and Walter were beaten to stupor.
