Warri South Council boosts Agro-economic growth with donation of fishing boats, accessories

In a firm resolve to boost Agro-economic growth in the coastal communities, the Dr. Michael Tidi led administration of Warri South Local Government, on Friday November 8, donated six fishing boats with engines as well as fishing nets, to six Co-operative Societies in the local government area.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr. Michael Tidi, in an address, before presentation of the boats and accessories, explained that the essence was to boost economic activities of the beneficiaries, particularly in fishing and other related economic activities.


Dr. Tidi who expressed optimism that the initiative had enabled his administration to create jobs with its positive multiplier effects on the economy of Warri, tasked the benefitting co-operative societies to make optimal use of the fishing boats and nets, as well as ensure their maintenance, “so that the benevolence of this administration could be replicated for other Co-operative Societies or bodies”.

The lawmaker representing Warri South Constituency 1 in Delta State House of Assembly, Dr. Augustine Uroye, described the gesture as the first of other economically beneficial programmes in the offing.

Dr. Uroye assured that he will continue to partner Warri South Local Government Council in the task of creating wealth and building capacity of his constituents.

The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli, in a message through the Palace Administrator, Chief Clement Maleghemi, advised the beneficiaries to protect the fishing boats and ensure productivity.

A member of Delta State Advisory Council, Chief Roland Oritsejafor and Leader of Warri South Legislative Arm, Hon. Jude Igherebuo, were among personalities that spoke at the well-attended ceremony.
