Price of rice in Nigeria to crash to N9,000 in 3 weeks

An aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on social media, Lauretta Onochie has announced that the price of rice in Nigeria will crash to N9,000 in about 3 weeks time.

In a social media post she updated earlier today, Lauretta wrote that rice farmers in Nigeria experienced a bumper harvest this season and so effortlessly bringing the price of the commodity down.

She wrote:

Rice addicts like me, should expect a crash in the commodity’s price to about ₦9,000 per 50kg bag in 3 weeks, as rice farmers record a bumper harvest.

Instead of paying 25,000 for “Foreign” Nigerian Rice, you will now have extra ₦16,000 towards other needs

Since the closure of various Nigerian borders with neighboring countries some weeks ago by the Nigeria Customs Service on the order of the President, the price of commodities like rice and imported Turkey has gone up drastically with complaints across the country on the poor quality of the local produce, despite the high price.
